How it works

A murder mystery in real places

All you need is a phone, comfortable shoes and a bit of curiosity.

  1. Step 1: Follow the trail

Your phone shows where to go and how far you have left. When you arrive, GPS unlocks the crime scene.

  2. Step 2: Examine the clues

Hold up your phone and turn around. The evidence appears in the camera view where it was found, and the witnesses are waiting to be questioned.

  3. Step 3: Solve the case

Compare what you found, work out who is lying and name the killer. Then you find out how it really happened.

Recommend places in your town

Every case is played in real places. Do you know a place that would suit a murder mystery? Take photos of it and tell us where it is and what makes it special. We use the photos and details when we write new cases.

  • You get your own link for sending in tips
  • Photos, where the place is and a short story are enough
  • If we use your tip in a case, you get a mystery for free

About us

A detective story you walk right into

Walk & Solve started as an idea at a dinner table: a real murder mystery, but out in town instead of around the kitchen table. Every case is built on places that really exist and on local history, but the people and the crimes are made up.

The evidence in the game is made so that every time and every detail adds up. You do not need to know any history beforehand. Everything you need is in the finds and the interviews.

Right now we are testing the cases in Knivsta, Uppsala and Västerås together with beta testers. The cases are written in Swedish first, and English versions follow. In Sweden we are called Mordpromenad.

Questions

Good to know

Is the game available in English?

Not yet. The first cases are written in Swedish, and English versions follow, starting with the towns where most people sign up. This page is in English so you can find out what the game is about.

How long does it take?

Allow about two hours and 3–5 kilometres. You walk at your own pace and can take a break whenever you like. The game is saved, so you can carry on later the same day.

How many people can play?

A team is 2–6 people. Everyone in the team can follow the case on their own phone, or you can gather around one. If there are more of you, split into several teams and compare scores.

Do we need to download an app?

No. Walk & Solve is played right in your phone’s browser through a link. It works on both iPhone and Android.

Is it suitable for children?

The Knivsta case suits players from about 12. It is exciting but not gory. Crime scenes are shown with chalk outlines and props, not injuries.

Do you need to know a lot of history?

No. The cases are built on local history, but everything you need is in the finds and the interviews. If you get stuck, you can ask for a clue.

How much does it cost?

You play for free during the beta test. At launch it will be 199 SEK per team and case, later 249 SEK. Beta testers get 50 percent off for six months after launch.

When are more towns coming?

Right now we are beta testing cases in Knivsta, Uppsala and Västerås. Stockholm and Sigtuna are on the wish list. Choose a town when you sign up, so we know where interest is greatest.

How does the beta test work?

We invite teams in small rounds. You get your own link by email and have 24 hours from the moment you press Starta. Afterwards you answer a few short questions, which takes about five minutes.
